Review of the Forum:
Collections are the material basis of museums. Only through education can collections and scientific research achievements be displayed to society, serve social development and embody the social value of an institution. Exhibitions are the most direct and intuitive way for museums to show their collections to the public, as well as the research results of scientists. On the morning of August 8, Professor Zheng Yi, Associate Professor of Cultural Relics and Museology Department of Fudan University and Director of Museum of Fudan University, was invited to hold a special academic lecture on "How to Improve the Combination Level of Exhibition and Teaching in Museums" at the Changchun Cultural Expo Forum sponsored by the Puppet Manchu Palace Museum.
Firstly, the formulation of museum education strategic planning needs to be clear: "education" for institutions, what is it. That is to say, museums should define their educational mission and pay attention to the description of it. Secondly, we need to define who is the "museum audience", which has different classification boundaries in different occasions. Thirdly, a series of definitions of museums, such as the links between education and exhibitions, collections and research fields, should be explored and clarified in the formulation of educational strategic planning. Fourthly, when formulating the strategic plan of Museum education, the external environment of educational activities also needs to be studied. Fifthly, when formulating strategic plans for education, museums must also be aware of their roles in the complex field of education.
At present, there are often cultural differences among curators, researchers and educators. This tension is particularly evident in the whole curatorial team. Curators and researchers often neglect and underestimate the contribution of educators and feel that they lack knowledge and skills related to themes and content. Educators are sometimes dragged into the curatorial team at the last minute. At the same time, educators feel that researchers and curators do not care enough about public access and do not know enough about the audience.
In the United States, because museums emphasize "education" as the common purpose of "collecting, protecting, researching, disseminating, exhibiting" and other basic businesses, the education sector has generally established good cooperative relations with other departments, while giving full play to their expertise. At the beginning of the planning of a special exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History, the curator elaborated on the audience and overall educational objectives of the exhibition in the master plan book. Then, curators, exhibition personnel and personnel of the Ministry of Education discuss how to achieve the above-mentioned educational goals through collection selection and Exhibition design, and define in the exhibition planning book the sub-educational objectives to be achieved by each part of the exhibition content, each group of exhibition relics, each exhibition design and on-site interaction. The Ministry of Exhibition and the Ministry of Education decide on the content and form design of the audience interaction project through joint consultation. It can be said that a successful exhibition is the result of cooperation among curators, exhibition designers and educators. In addition, in a broad sense, museum staff are all responsible for education. They are all members of education work, but educators are experts in this field. Education needs to be more integrated with exhibitions, collections and research. Especially in the process of exhibition planning, we should include educators from the beginning.
Throughout the developed countries, such as Europe and America, the organization and management mode of museum education activities is worth exploring. Although they are based on their own national conditions and pavilions
